As an actor, it’s easy to fall into a familiar cycle:

audition → hope → silence → waiting → the next audition.

You get an audition.

You prepare. You learn the lines. You make choices. You send the self-tape.

And then you wait.

You wait for an email.A call from your agent.A callback.Another audition.

Sometimes something happens.

Sometimes nothing does.

And when the phone stays silent for a little too long, it can start to feel as if your career has gone silent too.

But it hasn’t.

Your career doesn’t stop between auditions.

In fact, this is often the time when you can do some of the most important work for it.

There’s More to an Acting Career Than Auditioning

We don’t have control over when the next audition arrives.

We don’t get to decide whether a casting director calls us in, whether a director sees us in a particular role, or whether we book the job.

That’s part of being an actor.

But there are plenty of things we can do.

We can work on our craft.

We can prepare scenes and keep developing as actors.

We can build and nurture genuine relationships with people in the industry.

We can reach out to someone whose work has inspired us.

We can create something of our own.

We can look at where we want to go and decide what small step could take us a little closer.

We can keep moving.

This shift is at the heart of LEO — The Actor’s Career System.

I created LEO because I wanted something that would support an actor not only when an audition comes in, but also between auditions.

A place to prepare a scene and learn your lines.

To know when it might be a good time to follow up.

To set a bigger career goal and turn it into small, realistic actions.

But underneath all of those tools is one simple idea.

LEO isn’t here to build your career for you.

It’s here to help you keep building it yourself.

There’s always going to be luck involved in this profession.

Being in the right room.

Getting the right audition at the right moment.

We can’t control that.

But maybe we can give luck a little help.

We can create more situations in which something might happen.

Meet more people.

Get better at what we do.

Make our own work.

Stay in touch.

Be prepared when an opportunity arrives.

Take one small step, and then another.

Not because every action will immediately lead to a job.

Most won’t.

But over time, those actions become a career.

Your Career Is Happening Right Now

Your career isn’t only happening when you’re on set.

It isn’t only happening when you book a role.

And it isn’t only happening when an audition lands in your inbox.

It’s happening between auditions, too.

In the scene you work on when nobody is watching.

In the relationship you take care of.

In the email you finally send.

In the project you decide to create.

In the small thing you do today that might lead somewhere six months from now.

So when the phone is quiet, you don’t have to just wait for it to ring.

Ask yourself:

What can I do today?

And start there.

Dear fellow actors,

My name is Marcin. I’m an actor and acting coach.

I know the dreams we share — but I also know the struggles that come with them. From my own experience, from countless conversations with other actors, and from working with my students.

I know what it’s like to have a plan, feel energized, and think:

“Right. Let’s do this.”

And then the rejections start coming.

Or worse — nothing comes at all. No auditions. No calls. Just silence.

And suddenly, instead of moving forward, you find yourself waiting.

Waiting for your agent to call.Waiting to hear from a casting director.Waiting for the next opportunity.

It’s easy to lose momentum that way. To lose motivation. Sometimes even to start wondering whether any of it makes sense.

But here’s the thing:

When the work isn’t coming, there is still so much we can do for our careers.

We can work on our craft. Build and nurture genuine relationships with people in the industry. Reach out to a director whose film has just blown us away. Create something of our own. Plan the next move. Get a few people together and put on a play — even if it’s a play about being unemployed. 😉

We can give luck a little help.

Instead of sitting around waiting for someone to give us an opportunity, we can create more and more circumstances in which opportunities have a chance to find us.

That’s the need that led me to create LEO — The Actor’s Career System.

I wanted a tool that would be there for an actor not only when an audition comes in, but also — and perhaps especially — between auditions.

Something that helps you prepare a scene and learn your lines. Keeps track of your auditions, contacts, notes, and feedback. Reminds you when it might be time to follow up. Helps you nurture relationships. And when you have a bigger career goal in front of you, helps you break it down into small, concrete steps you can actually take.

But the most important idea behind LEO is even simpler:

I want LEO to help us move from:

Because we don’t have complete control over whether we book a particular role.

But we do have a say in how prepared we are. In the relationships we build. In how we develop our craft. And in how many opportunities we create for ourselves along the way.

And I think there’s something incredibly exciting about that.

Not just reaching the destination.

But the journey itself.
